Vehicle Paint Protection in Santa Rosa, CA
What is ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is a much more protective, permanent coating than wax or paint sealant that was traditionally used to protect paint or more recently paint sealants that are applied to protect the paint. It is a hard, slick coating that is applied to the car’s paint that binds to the clear coat of a car. Ceramic coating has hydrophobic and anti-stick properties. When your vehicle is coated with ceramic coating, the dust and pollen in the air will adhere much less keeping your vehicle clean longer, and when washing it, the water beads off of it and makes it easier to wash and dry. It also adds a glossy shine to your vehicle that doesn’t fade in time.

What does ceramic coating protect against?
Ceramic coating adds a layer of protection to your car’s paint; this coating itself is harder than your paint. Applying a ceramic coating on top of your car’s paint will increase the hardness of your paint by 2 points on the MOHS hardness scale It protects against etching from bugs, sap, and bird droppings in your cars paint, it also protects against acid rain, UV rays, dirt, chemicals, and other heavy pollutants. It helps protect against scratches but is not scratch proof. There are different warranties that come with the different manufacturer’s coatings; we would love to discuss them with you in detail, just give us a call or stop by the shop.
What preparation is performed to apply ceramic coating?
Here at Pristine Auto Detail, included in our ceramic coating prices, we do all the preparation needed in order to apply the coating. Your car will be washed, clay barred, and chemically decontaminated to get rid of any existing wax or chemicals that would prevent the coating from sticking. We then polish the entire vehicle to eliminate any swirl marks or scratches (if possible) present in your paint. We then do a final preparation wipe down before applying the coating and possible multiple layers of coating, depending on which package you choose. This coating is then allowed to harden overnight and is double-checked for any “high spots” or uneven bonding that occurs and that is corrected before the car is released to the owner.
How do I maintain my vehicle after ceramic coating? Does it need to be reapplied annually?
A typical hand wash is all that is required for proper maintenance on a ceramic-coated vehicle. Some of the coating manufacturers require an annual inspection which would perform with a wash at no additional charge to a hand wash. Some of our customers enjoy maintaining their own vehicles and applying a ceramic topper annually or biannually can easily be done by them or us; this process usually takes an additional 15 minutes after a hand wash. The ceramic topper continues to keep the vehicle hydrophobic which aids in keeping your car cleaner and the washing process easier.
